Tips for Week of August 19, 2004

THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:

  • Congratulations to the Redstone/Huntsville Chapter of AUSA for being named "Best Chapter in the World" out of 122 chapters! AUSA is a private, nonprofit, educational Association of individual, business and organization members dedicated to supporting and maintaining a strong national defense with emphasis on the role of the United States Army. AUSA supports the needs and interests of all components of the Total Army.

  • For only $50, you can make a "committment to purchase" the new USSRC Specialty License Plate "First To The Moon & Beyond". One thousand pre-orders are needed before the license plates can go into production, so making a decision now helps reach the goal and $41.25 of the fee goes toward the Saturn V Project. Then when your license plates come up for renewal, you can pick the new plates up. No extra charge for personalized plates!

  • A new flea market has opened on Hobbs Island Road in Huntsville. This outdoor market is open mostly on the weekends (but someone is always on the premises) and is growing by leaps and bounds. It reminds me a little bit of Collinsville--only MUCH closer! Starting September 5th, they will have a live auction with registered auctioneer, once a month on Sundays at 2 p.m.

  • Paul Thorton (Humphrey's, Cottage Row, Pauli's Chophouse) has two new restaurants in the Five Points Shopping Area: Sazio (Mediterrean/Italian) and Starfish (fine dining seafood) at 720 Pratt Ave (Old Zesto's building).

  • There are three restaurants in Providence so far: Tony's Little Italy, Cheeburger Cheeburger and Sweet Dreams.
