Tips for Week of November 11, 2004

THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:

• State troopers say the number of fatalities in accidents they have handled this year already has surpassed the number for all of 2003. The number of highway deaths last year was 576. So far this year the number is 657, including 12 in the first three days of November. Most of these were on county roads rather than state or federal highways. 

• Hunter Bell of WBHM radio in Birmingham is recruiting Alabama musicians for a new weekly arts program/magazine to begin airing in January 2005. All genres wanted. For more info, you can contact Hunter via email. 

• Lilies of the Valley is a new support group for ovarian cancer patients and survivors. For more info, you can call Kristi Kelly at 256.880.7366. 

• Thanksgiving is nearly upon us...it's time to start thinking about donating to the Downtown Rescue Mission. A complete Thanksgiving Dinner is $1.84 and $11.04 will feed 6 people. They've made it easy for you--you can donate online with your credit card. 

• Contact Cindy Kirby at 256.265.8999 for more information on the new "CPR for Family and Friends" class at the The American Heart Association Training Center at Huntsville Hospital. Travel teams can visit off-site locations or you can sign up for a community training course at the Center. 

• The Huntsville Sharks are selling raffle tickets: $2 for a chance to win 100 lbs. of meat from Rocket City Meats. Drawing on Monday, Nov. 15th.
