Grab the kids and head for the Huntsville Botanical Garden.  Not only are the butterflies flitting about, but there are eight creative treehouses positioned throughout the Garden for everyone to climb on, explore and try-out.  Now through October 31st, you can be a kid again, if you dare, and inspect these little masterpieces.

The Tree Thing

This treehouse (pictured third from left, second row) was designed by Ray Townsley, architect with Townsley & Associates.  The tree thing is almost a traditional, old-fashioned treehouse of yesteryear, made with whatever old remnants or new pieces of whatever material was available.  The Tree Thing is an elevated secluded space structured with space frames so that it doesn't rely on the host tree for support.  The design is a natural hexagonal form, with wood walls made of lattice panels.  The top is covered by canvas-like material and access is from a ladder and a slide.
