Located on South Memorial Parkway, Villa Fiore touts itself as "the only authentic Italian Restaurant." And, they mean not only Huntsville, but the whole Southeast. In fact, Villa Fiore is the Italian Chef Representative for Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina. This means that the restaurant is owned by an Italian, managed by an Italian, and the chef is from Italy.
Villa Fiore is owned by the de Baggis family, who started the restaurant four years ago. Ermanno de Baggis came to Huntsville in 1992 as the Italian military liaison on Redstone Arsenal. The family bought the old Sandman's Motel and renovated it themselves as a home, restaurant, and cooking school.
Slowly but surely, Villa Fiore is making a name for itself. Everything served in the restaurant is authentic Italian and homemade from scratch, including the ice cream. American Italian food is not the same thing as authentic Italian food.
