How to Register to Vote

One of the privileges of living in a democratic society is the right to vote. Make your voice heard!

Difficulty Level: easy Time Required: 30 minutes


Here's How:

  1. Make sure you are qualified to vote in Alabama. You must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, reside in Alabama, have not been convicted of a felong or been legally declared "mentally incmpetent" by court.
  2. Go to the Madison County Board of Registrars, located in Room 517, Fifth Floor of Madison County Courthouse or one of thesel convenient locations around town: all branches of the public library, The Department of Human Resources, Madison County Health Department, and the Driver's License office and their satellite offices. You can also call the Registrars office at 532-3510 and have a form mailed to you.
  3. Fill in your Social Security Number.
  4. Fill out all the white boxes on the form.
  5. Fill out box 15 (you will not be registered if you leave this box empty) declaring your eligibility to register in Alabama and sign the Voter Declaration statement. False answers could mean up to 5 years in prison!
  6. Turn in your form to the proper authority or mail to : Madison County Board of Registrar, 100 Northside Sq., Rm. 517, Huntsville, AL 35801-4820.
  7. Don't forget to vote in the next election!

Tips:

  1. No identification or proof of residency is required, although the state does verify your information by your social security number.
  2. You will receive notification by mail of where your polling place is on voting days.
