Panoply Arts Festival is a community event held annually in Huntsville in Big Spring Park the last full weekend of April. The word panoply means "wonderful array" and it is an array of activities, arts and entertainment that has grown since it was started in 1982 by The Junior League.

The annual Cemetery Stroll in Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville is held the first Sunday in May. It is sponsored by the Huntsville Historic Foundation and features local citizens dressed in costumes and acting out the parts of some of Huntsville's most famous or infamous characters.

Taylor Hicks has made quite a name for himself on "American Idol" in 2006. The
gray-haired blues singer from Alabama has already been impersonated on Saturday
Night Live and the competition isn't even over yet! But what about the guys he
left behind in Alabama while he flew out to Hollywood to become famous? When the
former Taylor Hicks Band performed in Huntsville recently, I had the opportunity
to meet them and ask a few questions and find out what's going on with them.

Huntsville received its first museum in 1955 when Dr. William Henry Burritt died
and left his mountaintop estate to the city. His fourteen-room mansion built in
the shape of an "X", personal collection of artifacts, and 167 acres of land on
Round Top Mountain (next to Monte Sano) were the foundation of the Burritt on
the Mountain Historic Park.

Shoals reporter Susann Elsass reports: The 2006 George Lindsey UNA Film Festival
grew by a leap and a bound. A record number of more than 200 features,
documentaries, short films and music videos were submitted during the
preliminary judging phase of this year's screen competition.

The drama students at Randolph School walked away with over 24 awards as Pelham
High School hosted the 2006 Alabama Thespian Conference February 24-26, 2006

Daffodils at Quietdale Plantation
Quietdale is extremely quiet and serene and in the middle of the city. The
majestic oak trees, ancient dogwoods, giant holly bushes, acres of daffodils and
profusion of Jackson vine is a vivid reminder of the Old South.

Springtime is Bradford Pear-adise!
It's beginning to look a lot like...spring! I think my favorite tree is the
beautiful Bradford Pear in all its glory. They only are in bloom for a week or
so, but it's so magical to see a large display of the white "popcorn" in some
Huntsville neighborhoods.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Vonetta Flowers was the first black athlete (male or female)--from any
country--to ever win an Olympic Winter Games gold medal. In the 2002 Olympics in
Salt Lake City, Vonetta and Jill Bakken drove USA to an Olympic gold medal,
ending the United States' 46-year medal drought in bobsled. She's competing for
her second gold in the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Book Review: "Dr. Space: The Life of Wernher von Braun"
I grew up in Huntsville during the 60's when the space program was at it's
height. As a teenager, I wasn't very interested in what was going on outside my
own little world. I really enjoyed really the complete story of Werhner von
Braun so I could relive some of the historic events, learn new things about Von
Braun and find out how it all ended for him.

Harrison Brothers Hardware Store is the oldest hardware store in Alabama. It is
now a museum and a fully-functioning store on the Square in downtown Huntsville.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Ask anyone who's grown up in Huntsville and they'll be able to tell you all
about the time that Jesse James and his gang staged a daring robbery on the
First National Bank downtown and, upon being cornered, spurred his horse off the

2005 Bouffant Benefit
Spay/Neuter Action Project (SNAP) is an organization dedicated solely to
reducing the euthanasia of dogs and cats as a way of solving the pet
overpopulation problem in the Huntsville. Instead, SNAP encourages pet owners to
have their pets spayed or neutered. The annual "Bouffant Benefit" helps raise
money for this important organization to continue their work.

Botanical Garden and taken photos of most of 80+ creative scarecrows. If you

09/10/05 Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride
One of the largest annual events to take place in the Shoals area is the Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride. It estimated that between 90,000 and 150,000 riders take part each year. The ride begins in Chattanooga, TN and ends in Waterloo, AL. The ride is always on the 3rd Saturday of September.

Native American Gathering--Oka Kapassa
On September 9th and 10th a very special Native American Gathering will take
place in Tuscumbia's Spring Park. The gathering is a "coming home" for
a number of the Native American Tribes who were forcibly removed from their
homes in the South East United States. The event is known as Oka Kapassa -
Return to Coldwater.

Honoring Elvis: Matt Cordell
To me, Elvis was the greatest singer who ever lived. He died 28 years ago on
August 16, 1977. Thanks to Elvis Tribute Artists like Matt Cordell, we can still
hear that great music in live concerts. Matt took first place in the
"National Tribute to the King" Competition in 2004 in Kansas City.
