Local Residents Win in Mountain Valley Art Competition

The Mountain Valley Arts Council and the Guntersville Museum and Cultural Center are pleased to announce the winners in the Winterfest 2002 Fine Arts Exhibit and Competition.

Winterfest is an annual competition and exhibition presented by the MVAC and the Museum.  It has been financially supported by the Marshall County Foundation for Fine Arts, The Sand Mountain Reporter and the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Winterfest 2002 has been made possible by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Judges selected awards in five categories.  In each category, a first, second and third place award was chosen.  Honorable mentions were given at the judges' discretion.  The Best of Show award is selected from all entries.  Winterfest 2002 winners were:

Judges for Winterfest 2002 were Dr. Clifton Pearson, Randy Shoults and Kathryn Lansing Vaughn.  Visitors to the exhibit can vote for the People's Choice Award.  Ballots will be handed to visitors to the Museum.

Winterfest 2002 is on display through Feb. 16 at the Guntersville Museum located on the corner of DeBow Street and O'Brig Avenue.  Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1-4 p.m.  For more information or to be added to the mailing list, call the Mountain Valley Arts Council at (256) 582-1454, toll free at 866-808-2215 or e-mail artscouncil@mindspring.com.  Anyone interested in viewing the exhibit may call the Museum at (256) 571-7597.
