The Huntsville Botanical Gardens has planted thousands of tulips this year to add to the color and wonder of an Alabama spring.  In preparation for the first annual Festival of Flowers to be held March 31 through April 29, 2001, the Garden has arranged special events and guest speakers.  A complete schedule for the Festival of Flowers can be found at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens website.

Special events include an Easter brunch, concerts, spring plant sale, afternoon tea at the Gardens, a bonsai show, and a photographic contest.  Workshops during the month long festival include: tree care,  growing and arranging orchids, creating a backyard habitat for songbirds, water to attract wildlife, frogs and turtles, and flower arranging.

Workshops by notated authors include:

  • Saturday, March 31--Felder Rushing, author of Garden Design and Fine Gardening. Felder will speak on "Passalong Plants" and "Getting Away with a Wild Garden in an Urban Setting."
  • Sunday, April 22--Jim Wilson, author of Landscaping with Wildflowers and Landscaping with Herbs and co-host of "Victory Garden South" will talk about his new book on Container Gardening.

Tickets to these events are available at First Commercial Bank, Lawren's, Publix, and Parisians.  The Huntsville Botanical Gardens is located at 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue in Huntsville.  For more information, call 256-830-4447.  Don't miss out on the fun and excitement at the Botanical Gardens this spring!
