| Part 1: Huntsville Community Chorus Production Sings | |||||||||||||
"This show is entertaining... vivacious...and calculated to please the discriminating theatre-goer....and you can quote me on that," says one of the gangster characters in the Huntsville Community Chorus production of Kiss Me Kate. I have to agree. This Tony Award-winning revival of Cole Porter's musical is certainly entertaining and vivacious!
This intriguing play within a play has what Walter Kerr referred to in his review as " the score is one of the loveliest and most lyrical yet composed for the contemporary stage." And the 18-piece orchestra in this production does an excellent job bringing it to life.
Director John Hancock (with assistance from Michael Malone, Connie Voight and Alexis Reinhart) has done an incredible job with casting of this play. The leads are all strong singers and actors. Not only is the music great, but the dancing in this show is outstanding. Stephanie Braly Beutjer is the choreographer and whether she or the director should get credit (probably both!), the transitions into song and dance are flawless. "Too Darn Hot" is every bit as energetic as one of the dance numbers in "Chicago."
