Butler High School can be proud of Miss Amy Patel's production of Charlotte's Web. This classic children's play is adapted from the story by E.B. White.

It was written by Joseph Robinette and is set in the 1940's on a rural farm and at the county fair.

Every detail was researched so that the barnyard of Charlotte's Web seems real and so do the habits of the animals. White used his farm in Maine for his observations.

In Charlotte's Web, a spider (Charlotte) saves a pig (Wilbert) from slaughter. Despite Charlotte's sophisticated vocabulary, she is still a spider who traps flies in her web and sucks their blood. Likewise, though Wilbur expresses deep emotions, he is still a pig who likes to lie in the mud and breathe in the warm smell of manure.

With very little adult help and on a minimum budget, it is hard to believe the quality and professionalism of this little show. The set and animal costumes are great.

This is the first show I've seen in a long time where the actors seem to be truly enjoying themselves! The farmers in Charlotte's Web particularly seem to like being on stage and do an outstanding job.
