A group of pilots in
Huntsville meet the third weekend of every month at
Moontown Airport, 7 miles east of Huntsville off Highway 72 in Brownsboro, to eat breakfast, show off their airplanes (many they made themselves!), talk shop, and give kids a ride in an airplane. These pilots are members of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
EAA is a growing and diverse organization of members with a wide range of aviation interests and backgrounds. It was started in 1953 by a group of individuals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who were interested in building their own airplanes. Through the decades, the organization expanded its mission to include antiques, classics, warbirds, aerobatic aircraft, ultralights, helicopters and contemporary manufactured aircraft. Their love for flying is evident in the number of hours and the dedication these pilots have to their aircraft. They are willing to tell anyone who asks the story about their planes and their flight experience.
Retired members spend a lot of their spare time at Moontown Airport.
