| Clementine's Field of Greens |
At the mere mention of lunch at Clementine's Field of Greens, several members of the Newcomer's Club of Greater Huntsville were thrilled to volunteer as guest food critics. Clementine's is located in Market Square Mall off the Parkway and features Specialty Salads and Sandwiches or the Salad Buffet.
Since I have a hard time making decisions, I enjoyed the fact that you can choose from one, two or three salads on the salad plate. Of course, I had to have three! And if you like chicken salad, as I do, then you'll like the wide variety: Pedestrian Chicken Salad, Madison Street Chicken Salad, Fruity Chicken Salad, Spring Garden Chicken Salad, Artichoke Chicken Salad, Taco Chicken Salad, and Lemon Chicken Salad. They also have four kinds of potato salad--mustard, Dijon, German, and Sour cream and dill. Pasta salads include Vegetarian, Italian, and Shrimp.
If sandwiches are more to your liking, then you might want to choose Grilled Tuna, Pan-fried Crab Cakes, Lean Bounty Burger, Veggie Pita Melt, or the Clementine's Melt. Side dishes, breads, and drinks round out the menu. You can also order a box lunch.
The Newcomers ordered a variety of items from the menu. The consensus of all 19 diners was that the salad bar definitely gave you better service. Clementine's was short-staffed the day we went and some had to wait over an hour for their food! That fact alone made a lot of this lunch crowd comment that they would never come back.
Opinions on their first impression of the restaurant varied from fair and favorable, "no big deal," plain, ordinary to nice with the white tablecloths on glass top tables, carpeting, and separate rooms. One person rated the restaurant a "5" on a scale of 1 to 10; two gave it an "8," but most agreed it was a "6 or 7."
Some specific comments on the food included: Club Sandwich--disappointed, fell apart, bacon too fatty and no pickle. Shrimp Salad--very small shrimp. Crab cake Sandwich and Pasta--crab cake was excellent, pasta salad was too sharp and over olive oiled. Grilled Tuna Salad--very good, not too done. Strawberry Shortcake was dry.
Some thought the prices were too high; others thought the price was a good value. All in all we delighted in one another's company, had some "pretty good" food, and enjoyed critiquing someone else's cooking.
