| Ding How II--Restaurant Review |
Ding How II, located at 4800 Whitesburg Drive in Huntsville, advertises itself as "the best Chinese restaurant in Alabama." I wouldn't go that far, but as for the price, it is definitely one of the best deals in town that you'll find. Most of the luncheon menu starts at $3.95, so you can have a beverage and pay only $5.00 for lunch.
Ding How II menu includes a special casserole--with slices of chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, crab meant and Chinese vegetables,--a seafood sizzling plate, orange steak or chicken, Dragon and Phoenix--slices of chicken with lobster,--seafood bird's nest, szechuan seafood delight--shrimp, scallops, with fresh vegetables and exotic hot sauce, Beijing duck, and tradition Chinese dishes. You can order a Ding How Banquet for a minimum of 10 people and a 48 hour advanced notice for preparation of selected dishes from various regions of China.
The Newcomers Club of Greater Huntsville stopped by Ding How II for lunch recently to see what they had to offer. Comments varied, with most giving it an "8" or higher rating. We had asked for a private room for our group. The only one they had was the "smoking room." Although we were promised we could have it exclusively, we were disappointed to see that they did seat the "smokers" in the room with us.
Some of the Newcomer members' comments included:
"Authentic decor; the "special" tasted good, but more chicken in
it would be good."
"Service--rapid and good; egg drop soup was awful-fishy tasting; sweet and
sour shrimp was good."
"Chicken Almond Ding--chicken too salty; hot and sour soup was good; egg
roll--oil seemed sort of rancid."
"Almond Chicken"--chicken and sauce was great; rice was good; egg roll
tasted old. I usually like the food here and have recommended it in the
past."
"Happy Family lunch was very tasty; close to authentic Chinese; I would
come again. Very good portions."
"Chow Mien Special--large portions; good price; very flavorful."
As you can see, most liked the food and service. The decor was typical Chinese and the waiters friendly. If you're looking for a bargain lunch and you're feeling like Chinese, this place should definitely be on your list.
