Everyone knows "The King."  Huntsville now has our own King.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 6, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi.  He and his parents moved to Memphis in 1948.  Elvis recorded his first record with Sun Records in 1954.  It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion records worldwide, more than anyone else in the history of the record business.  He starred in 33 movies and won three Grammy's.

Elvis died August 16, 1977 at the age of 42.  The anniversary of Elvis's death is remembered by thousands of Elvis fans who descend upon Graceland for a time to honored the King of Rock and Roll.

Elvis made two appearances in Huntsville during his lifetime.  Rumor has it that the Huntsville Hilton was built next to the Von Braun Civic Center for Elvis because he refused to stay in any hotel but a Hilton.  Elvis was booked for Huntsville in September, 1977.

Unfortunately Elvis didn't make that appearance.  A local southern boy has stepped into Elvis' shoes to fill some of the vacuum left here in the South by The King.  Thirty-three year old Mitchell Brown has been performing with the Twickenham Orchestra around the Huntsville area for the last four years.

Note:  All pictures in this story are of Mitchell Brown, not Elvis!

Mitchell says he has always loved the music of Elvis.  He soon realized that he could imitate the same sound as Presley.  In high school, he started performing at school events.  The year he graduated from New Hope High School, his aunt asked him to perform at her class reunion.   He had several gigs after that and did occasional performances just for fun.
