Now you can enjoy the many
wonders and charms of Monte Sano (Italian for mountain of health) on the
Burritt Museum Guild's
second annual Monte Sano Homes Tour. People
have long been drawn to Monte Sano. The
Mountain served as a bountiful hunting ground for native peoples long before
European settlers arrived. The
Hotel Monte Sano attracted tourists from all over the United States during the
late 19th century. And, Monte Sano
is where Dr. William Henry Burritt built his unusual retirement home in 1936. His mansion would eventually become Huntsville's
first museum.
The tour features five lovely
homes and one charming mountain garden (the Burritt Mansion and the log houses
in Burritts Historic Park are also included).
Parking will be on the streets near each home, or you may ride the
shuttle from Burritt Museum or the Monte Sano Baptist Church. Shuttles will make
a continuous loop throughout the tour. Please
refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, or taking photographs inside the
residences and at the garden. Tickets Tickets are $18 per person if purchased in advance or $20 on the day of the tour. Burritt members with a current membership card may purchase tickets for $10. Tickets and memberships may be purchased at the Burritt Museum Store or charged on your Visa or MasterCard by calling (256) 536-2882. Tickets are also available at Shavers Bookstore, J. Jones, LTD, Lawrens, Rebeccas, The Greenery, and Paulis Bar and Grill. Tickets will also be available at each tour stop the day of the event. You will receive a map to the featured homes and parking lots when you purchase your ticket.
