If you're researching your family tree in the Huntsville, Madison County area, you'll find lots of helpful sites to help the beginner or experienced genealogist including the Heritage Room at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and the Maple Hill Cemetery, the biggest and oldest cemetery in Alabama. Maple Hill Cemetery has a special section for Confederate Soldiers who died in the Civil War plus lots of interesting and beautiful monuments. You might want to join the Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society and receive their quarterly magazine, Valley Leaves, covering information on 9 counties in North Alabama and detailing how you, too, might qualify as a "First Family" of the Tennessee Valley.

The Family History Center is located on Sparkman Drive and is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday mornings. A second Family History Center in the south part of town is located on Byrd Springs Road, open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and evenings.
