Guide Review
An Alabama School Girl Goes to Finishing School
Author Nancy Rohr lets us eavesdrop on Mary Fenwick Lewis and her family as they exchange letters in the 1840's.  Mary Lewis is off to Paris with the Calhoun family for finishing school in Paris.  She keeps up a lively correspondence with her family while away and helps us see what life is like in the 1840's.  Ms. Rohr has added detailed notes and documentation to make the book come alive.

This book is wonderful for the person looking for a historic view of Huntsville, pursuing family genealogy, or looking to learn more about life in the 1840's.  There is something almost sinful in reading other people's mail and this book does not disappoint.  It brims with enthusiasm, naivety, and a fresh look at historic events.
