About.com Guide to Huntsville, AL since 1999

Jean Brandau is a native of Huntsville who has recently "come home" after living in Cedar Falls, Iowa for 30 years. She shares both the "old-timer" and "newcomer" perspective with you.

Experience:

Jean was born and raised in Huntsville and has deep roots in the community. Her great-great-grandfather, Isaiah Dill, was Chancellor for North Alabama during the Civil War. A painting of Isaiah and his wife Martha (an artist) hangs in the Burritt on the Mountain museum. Jean's great uncle, Alvin Dreger, was instrumental in starting the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Jean's cousin, Mike Gibson, is Horticultural Curator at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. All these family connections adds to Jean's interest and depth of knowledge about Huntsville.

Jean served as a judge for two years for FOX-54's "Alabama Idol" contest. She is an avid theatre-goer and has reviewed hundreds of local and professional theatre productions. Most of her energy is disbursed as a self-appointed inspector of tea rooms, reading her vast collection of books on Huntsville's history, and exploring all parts of North Alabama. Jean has been the Huntsville Guide since 1999.

Education:

Jean graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville. She holds a A.A.S. Degree in Marketing Management from Hawkeye Community College and a B.S. Degree in Marketing from Upper Iowa University. She has worked in the communication, travel and legal fields.

From Jean Brandau:

"I'm thrilled about sharing the fascinating blend of Southern hospitality and space technology in Huntsville with you. It's truly a unique and exciting place. I hope you'll come back here often and allow me to explore the many possibilities for you."
