Burritt on the Mountain

Burritt on the Mountain is currently showing music boxes and phonographs in the Mansion. These intricate machines that created music date back to the 1500’s, however, only royalty could afford to have such wonderful items. By the early 1800’s, the Swiss began producing similar ones for less money. These featured steel combs and tiny pins on cylinders. These tiny pins plucked the teeth of the combs and created a sweet melody. By the end of the century the Germans had invented the disc music box.

Gershwin to Gillespie: Portraits in American Music

A salute to 20th century American music comes to life through 50 portraits of some of America's greatest artists and composers in music, including George Gershwin, Dizzy Gillespie, Leonard Bernstein, Bob Dylan and Philip Glass, portrayed by equally famous photographers including Edward Steichen, Philippe Halsman, Irving Penn and Annie Liebovitz.

Painting the Italian Landscape: Views from the Uffizi

From the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, this exhibition of approximately 40 original paintings offers a chronological view of the evolution of landscape painting in Italy from the Renaissance of Botticelli to the 18th century of Canaletto.

UAH Art Galleries

The UAH art department presents the work of regionally and nationally known artists, visiting-artist lectures, as well as offering exhibition opportunities for faculty and students. There are 2 gallery/exhibition spaces on campus -- the Union Grove Gallery& Meeting Hall(located between the University Center and Morton Hall) and the University Center Gallery (located in UAH's student center).
