Huntsville's History in Art

The Big Spring

In honor of Huntsville's 200th birthday, the Huntsville Museum of Art showcases a display of selected artworks from the Museum's permanent collection through January 16, 2006.

"The art selected for this exhibition will serve as a history lesson for visitors," Curator Deborah Taylor said, "Art documents the changes that transpire in a particular location."

Here's a few selected photos from the collection...but be sure and go enjoy this pictorial walk in the past before the exhibit closes.

One of the highlights of the exhibit is this painting attributed to 19th century Huntsville artist William Fry (1822-1872). It shows Big Spring Park in earlier years. A supplemental display shows how the museum restored this painting to its original appearance.
