Artist Albert Lane moved to Huntsville in 1939 from Michigan to work for the Monroe Letterhead Company. He made it a priority to learn all he could of Huntsville's history. In later years he joined the art staff of NASA and documented Huntsville in its transition to a thriving city. After his retirement, he became best known for his pen and ink studies of Huntsville's historic landmarks, such as the Monte Sano Hotel, which opened its doors on June 1, 1887 and closed in the early 1900s due to a declining economy.
