Dan and Ann Clough invite you to their enchanted hillside garden with it's cascading rock pool, magnificent collection of Japanese Maples, and beautiful gazebo. This garden is inspirational for homeowners with rocky hillside lots. This is an enchanted and enchanting garden. Plan to spend time here to seek out the fairies, toadstools and lovely sculptures that have found homes in the many shady nooks. The delightful gazebo is decorated with whimsical and architectural features; the blue ceiling discourages insects from building nests as they confuse it with the sky. Dan and Ann have traveled as far as Oregon collecting Japanese maples, which give wonderful texture, movement and color to this intimate space. Note the dwarf conifer Bonsai collections nestled in troughs throughout. Dan built the rock walls and 3-tiered cascading pond that add dimension to the sloped landscape. Be sure not to miss the side yard. Neglected in many gardens, Ann's creative use of this space adds mystery and magic - light facets from spinning mirrors bounce off walls and trees while the sound of the water and birdsong weave an irresistible spell.

This pocket-sized yard illustrates excellent use of space and how to create privacy using dense evergreen trees and walls. The sparkling pool can be enjoyed from a shaded eating area, or a comfortable swing under a solid gazebo. An attractive stone wall hides pool equipment and a cottage-like shed contains gardening supplies. Louise has carved out a substantial service area in the very back, but you'd never notice as it's so cleverly disguised. The use of evergreen shrubs and perennial plants make this a low-maintenance, high-enjoyment. Louise's backyard oasis proves there can be beauty in small spaces. Be sure to stop at the front porch - it's a work of art.
