Guide Review - Easy Gardens For The South

"Easy Gardens For the South" is 316 pages of gardening information, hints and tips. Authors Harvey Cotton (Huntsville AL), Pamela Crawford (Canton, GA) and Barbara Pleasant (Mobile, AL) share their years of gardening in the South with readers. The book is a godsend for folks living in Zones 6, 7, and 8.

This book could easily be subtitled "The Lazy Man's Guide to a Fabulous Garden" or "Gardening for Dummies." Everything you need to know for a low-maintenance, yet spectacular, garden is covered. You'll find plants listed according to color, height and amount of time needed to maintain them.

No matter what prolems you have encountered as a gardener, you'll probably find it addressed in "Easy Gardens." You'll find hundreds of colorful photos of flowers and plants you might be considering for your garden. There is information on grasses including "Ten Key Points" and "Six Southern Grasses." There's an article on Easy Hedges & Screens, Understanding Light and Easy Shade Plants.

The authors tell you when to plant, spacing plants appropriately, planting trees and shrubs from containers, watering the established garden, how to collect rainwater, solutions for limited water, and time-saving weeding tips.

"Easy Gardens" is appropriately named because it walks you through your garden step-by-step and helps you avoid common pitfalls while showing you how to have a lovely garden without too much effort. In fact, the hardest thing you'll have to do is put down the book and go outside!

"Easy Gardens For the South" is available at Huntsville Botanical Garden's gift shop, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Home Depot and selected garden centers around the Southeast. This is one gardening book you must have in your library. This book is worth every penny.
