This Southern cuisine festival honors everything cornbread. The National Cornbread Cook-Off features finalists preparing their original main dish recipes. Cornbread Alley is a taster’s delight where visitors savor the smells and tastes of a variety of cornbreads. Walk-on contestants at the main stage enter cornbread eatin’ contests and buttermilk chuggin’ contests throughout the weekend. Cornbread Kids’ Corner features cornmeal playdoh, face painting, fountain fishing and other hands-on activities kids love.
Toe tapping music is heard throughout the Festival. Rhonda Vincent and the Rage are featured on the main stage on Sunday afternoon. Adjacent to the festival grounds is the full-size carnival midway with its thrilling rides. Tours of South Pittsburg’s historic residential district showcase homes and the people who built and/or lived in them. Only during the festival, Lodge Manufacturing Company opens its state of the art foundry for tours of the plant where cast iron cookware is made. Two touring art quilt exhibits which depict female and male biblical characters are on display at the American Legion Hall.
Admission to the National Cornbread Festival is only $3 per person with preschoolers free. Festivities begin daily at 9 AM CDT. For more information call 423-837-0022 or visit www.nationalcornbread.com .
