Inside Unclaimed Baggage Center in Boaz

The tragedy of 9/11 affected more than the obvious businesses around the country. Previously, Unclaimed Baggage Center had received nearly one million items each year from the airlines. With a decreased volume of travelers, the Unclaimed Baggage Center soon realized they weren't getting enough merchandise to maintain two stores and the second store in Boaz was closed in the spring of 2002.

Once again, however, travelers are flying and losing their luggage and personal items in record numbers. After nearly 100 days of trying to find the owners, the airlines, who don't have storage capabilities for the abundance of lost items, turn to Unclaimed Baggage Center as a place to deposit the unclaimed merchandise.
