Alabama Renaissance Faire

From Susann Elsass

"Coin of the Realm"

A new monarch is chosen annually to preside over the Faire. It's a desirable role and the choice is made in a delightful manner.

Each year a "Coin of the Realm" is hidden in one of the deserts served at the Renaissance Feast. Whoever is served the lucky desert becomes the monarch for the next year's Faire. Those individuals who have attended the Faire before probably know all about "Coins of the Realm", but I had to ask for a definition. These are actual coins that are specially minted for the Faire. The design changes each year and this years coin will be 5th in a series of 6 based on the legend of King Arthur. This year's coin will be the Lancelot issue. The Renaissance Faire in Wilson Park is free. Tickets for the Feast go on sale October 1st and seating is limited to 200. The tickets are $20.00 each. Please visit the Alabama Renaissance Faire web site for more information about related events and details about the Faire.
