I chose to move from Los Angeles, Ca and retire in the Shoals area in 2002. The quad cities, known as The Shoals are Muscle Shoals, Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia Alabama. The reason I choose the Shoals was that I could see there was an emerging artists community here very much in the spirit of Eureka Springs, AR, Ashville, NC, or Santa Barbara, CA. I did all of my research online and found the Shoals area to be loaded with culture and art related events. There are several festivals, a number of public and private art galleries, two active theatre groups, a local symphony, and the largest Renaissance Faire in the south just to name a few. I haven't been disappointed and I'm constantly discovering surprises and delights in my new community. It's my pleasure to be given the opportunity to share some of the things that I find special about the Shoals area with Huntsville readers and the surrounding communities.
