Elvis...Oktoberfest...

There are a couple of events scheduled for the weekend of October 1st. The city of Sheffield will host a 50th anniversary Elvis Day celebration titled "Sheffield Remembers Elvis". I recently took a walking tour of Sheffield and learned that Elvis had performed at a local community center. This is a Graceland-approved event. The location for festivities is the Muscle Shoals Music Hall at 414 N. Montgomery Avenue in downtown Sheffield. There are shows scheduled from noon until 4:30pm and from 6pm to 10pm.

The other event scheduled for the first weekend in October is an Oktoberfest to be held in St. Florian just east of Florence. There will be plenty to do at this festival. They have a car and truck show, a display of antique farm equipment, an exotic petting zoo, and demonstrations like chair caning and police dog training. There will be an antique auction that starts at 5pm. There are activities for the kids such as a mini carnival and a variety of inflatables. There will be live music and plenty of German food and BBQ chicken both days of the festival. The festivities will take place at St. Michaels Church, 2751 County Road 30, and the hours are Saturday Oct 1st 9:00 am - (the fireworks show starts at dark), and Sunday, Oct 2nd 11am - 5pm. Admission is free. Contact: 256-767-3690.
