Oka Kapassa; Tennessee Valley Art Center Exhibit

Oka Kapassa - Return to Coldwater

On September 9th and 10th a very special Native American Gathering will take place in Tuscumbia's Spring Park. The gathering is a "coming home" for a number of the Native American Tribes who were forcibly removed from their homes in the South East United States. The event is known as Oka Kapassa - Return to Coldwater. Oka Kapassa means coldwater.

On September 11th a new show will open at the Tennessee Valley Art Center. The Exhibition is titled Ancient Art: masterful works from the native southeast. The display will include prehistoric artifacts from the Pickwick Lake basin and other archeological sites that reflect the artistry of the native Southeast. The address is 511 North Water Street in Tuscumbia. Contact: (256) 383-0533 or (256) 383-0535 for more information.
