Information on The Ark...

Nina Beal, Founder-Director of the ARK, Inc explains in her own words the history and mission of the organization dearest to her heart:

In 1990 when I decided to build a no kill animal shelter. I made the decision I would not house more animals than we could humanely care for.

We have no paid employees and operate daily on donations. The Ark receives no city, state, county or federal funding. However, we do apply for and at times receive grants. The Ark has several programs in effect that no other animal shelter has:

  • We have an Agreement of Understanding with Hope Place to care for and house the pets of domestic violence victims.
  • We work with the local American Red Cross to take a DART (Disaster Animal Relief Team) into tornado areas and help displaced or injured animals.
  • Humane Education Program
  • a Pet Therapy program.
  • volunteers take our animals into schools and nursing homes.
  • a Resolution by the City Council allows the Ark to take any animal from our local City Animal Shelter before it is put to death.
