Most people believe Greyhounds are very active dogs that require a lot of room and exercise. However, once retired, these 40-mile-per-hour couch potatoes take retirement very seriously, sleeping up to 18 hours a day. Greyhounds are sprinters not long distance runners. In a fenced yard, Greyhounds are quite happy making 2-3 laps around the yard. If a fenced yard is not available, a 10-15 minute walk 2-3 times a day suffices for their exercise. Many adopters who jog have gradually worked their Greyhounds into running several miles.
