Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Greyhounds

Greyhounds Cannot Live Outdoors...

One of the main things that anyone interested in adopting a Greyhound must understand is that Greyhounds do not have the insulating fat layers that other breeds have and, as a result, they do not tolerate heat or cold well. This makes them susceptible to heat stroke and hyperthermia. So they cannot live outdoors. They are strictly an inside dog. An added benefit to this lack of fat layers is that they don’t have that “dog smell” that other breeds have, even when wet. They normally smell like the last person that hugged them. And their short-haired coats make grooming a breeze. Greyhounds only require a bath 1-2 times per year (or when they get dirty) and often times can merely be wiped down with a wet cloth or baby wipes.

Frequently described as a cat in a dog’s body (from the way they curl up in a ball to sleep as cats do, as well as sleeping the majority of the day), Greyhounds make exceptional inside pets. They also do well in apartment settings because they don’t require a lot of space and they fact that they are not normally barkers.
