There are plenty of places to go to enjoy fall activities and halloween fun in the North Alabama area. Here's a sampling of things to do--some with the whole family and some just for adults.

Scarecrow Trail

Now Through October 31, 2009
The annual Scarecrow Trail at Huntsville Botanical Garden includes over 100 creative, unusual and downright ingenius scarecrows. The 2008 Scarecrow Trail was kicked off with a Scarecrow Parade and assorted games and activities for the young ones. Come along as we take a walk through the beautiful Garden and look at the always "interesting" scarecrows.

Tate Farms: Lots of Pumpkins & Lots of Fun

Thru October 30, 2009
It doesn't take long to live in North Alabama and find out where the best pumpkin patch is. It's Tate Farms Cotton Pickin' Pumpkins in Meredianville. So pack up the kids and spend an adventuresome and family-friendly day at one of the happinest places around Huntsville in the fall. Pick your own pumpkin off the vine, pet the animals and try out the hay maize. You can also get lunch at Tate Farms if you stay a long time and need something to eat. Field of Screams & Cornmaze

September 11, 2009 and closes November 21st
Cornfield Mazes are the rage all across America. The Brownsboro Cornfield Maize is the biggest one near Huntsville with over 14 acres and many special activities and events for the whole family. The MaIze is located east of Huntsville on US HWY 72. Turn North onto Brownsboro Road, they are behind the Post Office.

Haunted Graystone Manor

The month of October through first weekend in November
Graystone Manor is over 30,000 sqft of ultimate terror, with twists, turns and all manor of horrors the Doctor's evil mind could conjure. And because the Doctor loves his bodies warm and fresh we have an indoor holding and ticketing area. Plus you can grab your last meal at Dead Debbie's Diner while you wait, no need to die on an empty stomach. New for 2009: While at Graystone Manor be sure to go through Dr. Vanburan's Asylum where the insane's nightmares come to life.

Huntsville Ghost Walk

Huntsville Ghost Walk starts at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store (124 Southside Square Downtown Huntsville) every Saturday Night through October 31t promptly at 6 p.m. Admission is $8.00 for adults; $6.00 for children 12 and under. Call (256) 509-3940 for more information. Tickets sold in advance at Harrison Brothers or on the night of the walk.

Nightmare on Clinton Street

Saturday, October 31
It's the 6th annual Huntsville Halloween Party. Huntsville Young Professionals, Huntsville Alive! and Valley Planet join forces to throw North Alabama's BIGGEST and BEST Halloween party. 8 pm until 12:30 am in the Clinton Street Parking Garage. Must be 21 years or older.

Historic Huntsville’s Halloween Hoopla!

A family-friendly event featuring haunted hayrides, flickering luminaries, seasonal storytelling, trick-or-treating, a haunted house, adult/children costume contests & bike rides, a dog costume contest and walk, FREE children’s activities, ghost strolls, a pumpkin piñata, a chance to chill at the evening teen rock concert, Halloween-decorated trolley rides, and MORE—in and around The Lumberyard, located in historic downtown Huntsville, AL. Spooktacular Science Halloween Party

Friday, October 30 & 31, 2009
Sci-Quest hosts a family friendly Spooktacular Science Halloween party. This two-evening Halloween party takes place on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 31 from 3-6 p.m., and introduces children of all ages to the fun side of science. With exploding pumpkins, spooky games, costume contests, hands-on activities, Halloween-themed programs and other tricks and treats, Spooktacular Science is fun for the whole family. A New Leash On Life Halloween Birthday Bash

A New Leash on Life is turning 5! A Halloween Birthday Bash is being held to celebrate on aturday, October 31st from 1 to 3 pm at the Dog Park. Bring your New Leash adopted dogs and get a special gift. There will be a Dog Costume Contest at 1:30. Pet Photographs by perfectedperspectives.com. Music, doggie edible birthday cake, and lots of FUN. ...and our adoptable dogs and cats will be there! (cats will be outside the park)

Viduta Festival

The rich heritage of Monte Sano will come alive at the Viduta Festival, a celebration using the name chosen for the first settlement in 1835 atop Monte Sano Mountain. On October 31, from 10:30 am-2 pm, there will be an ongoing video in the Monte Sano United Methodist Church Sanctuary. Costumed interpreters will tell their stories during a historic walking tour, old-timers will share their memories & musical groups will perform. Baked goods and a BBQ lunch will be available, as well as children’s activities & a hayride. At 6:30 that evening, bonfires will light the Halloween night at the Methodist church while Viduta ghost stories are told, s’mores are enjoyed and costumes are admired.
