Ferns and Azaleas of Banyon Swamp
Free. 2 pm-- (1 hour, easy) Discover colorful azaleas, native ferns, six springs, and a bubbling creek on this stroll along a winding pathway through this extraordinary northwest Madison County wetland. This property is a Life Estate donated to The Land Trust by owner Malcolm Gillis. Directions: From University Drive take Pulaski Pike North for about 13 miles. At short stretch of four lane road just past Grimwood Road, stay in right lane which turns right onto Morris Road. Follow Morris Road one mile to stop sign at Opp Reynolds Road. GPS 101 on Wade Mountain Preserve
Free. 10 am (2.5 miles / moderate) A perfect family hike! Geocache expert Jim Clark will explain how to use your GPS and how to find the hidden treasures. Please wear long pants and put on poison ivy block. Directions: Drive North on Memorial Parkway past Alabama A&M University. Turn left onto Hollow Road which is the first road north of Winchester Highway. Turn right on Spraggins Hollow Road. Empire Brass

Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theater Presents: " The Gingerbread House in the Forest "
Admission charged. Fri. 7 pm, Sat.-Sun. 1:30 & 5 pm at Von Braun Center Playhouse, 700 Monroe Street. This adaptation of Hansel and Gretel is directed by Jeannie Sharpe and performed at the VBC Playhouse. Tickets may be purchased from the Fantasy Playhouse Office at 3313 Long Avenue, Mon.-Fri. 9 am-5 pm. Panoply Arts Festival
Admission charged. Fri. 5-9 pm, Sat. 10 am-9 pm & Sun. 1-9 at Big Spring International Park. Panoply has been a Huntsville Tradition for over 26 years. This three-day outdoor festival features presentations, demonstrations & fun , while promoting & enhancing the arts. It offers the perfect family environment through activities that children, teens & adults alike can enjoy, from the "Global Village" to hands-on workshops to the "Official Alabama State Fiddling Championship," "Homegrown Talent Contest," "Ten-Minute Playwright Competition," Art Marketplace, an interactive drum circle & more.
