Tate Farms Cotton Pickin' Pumpkins
Admission charged. . Mon.-Fri., 2-6 p.m., Sat., 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in Meridianville. Hands-on farm learning experience for private groups such as daycares, public and private school groups, and home-schooled groups. Harmony Park Animal Preserve
Admission charged. 10 am-Sundown. Drive-through observation & feeding of free ranging rare & endangered animals. Your self-guided tour also includes reptiles & amphibians from around the world, as well as various species of fowl. Last month of the season. South on Memorial Parkway, left onto Hobb's Island Road, go nine miles, right into Historic Cloud's Cove, 431 Cloud's Cove Road. For more information, call (877) 726-4625.

Celebrating Life & Work of Oak Ridge Boys Member William Lee Golden (Tuscumbia)
The Alabama Music Hall of Fame is honoring iconic singer William Lee Golden with a rare exhibition of his dynamic and powerful paintings. For more info, call (256) 381-4417.

Woodcarving Show & Competition
Free. Sat. 9 am-5 pm & Sun. 10 am-5 pm at Historic Huntsville Depot, 320 Church Street. Local & visiting woodcarvers will be present to compete & sell carvings. Many carvers will be demonstrating their techniques. For more information, call (256) 881-5052.

November 1
Howl-O-Ween
Admission charged. 6-8:30 pm at Hays Nature Preserve, Highway 431 east of Huntsville, between mile marker 323 & 324. This is a great event for kids & families. All sorts of things are happening in the woods just out of sight, ghouls, goblins, witches & death eaters are abroad in the darkness. The Blair Witch & other blackhearts will lead the 45 minute hikes through the haunted wilderness where the headless horseman, disembodied souls & wolves will be lurking. A monster bonfire will be held from 10 pm to the Witching Hour. No flashlights allowed. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. Witch-led Haunted Forest Walks on the 1/2 hour (6-7 pm geared to younger kids 5-8). For more information, call (256) 427-5116.

November 1
Rocket City Railfest
Admission charged. 10 am-3 pm at Jaycee's Building, 204 Martin Road. Layouts feature painstakingly detailed miniature trains, ranging from large HO-scale to the diminutive N-scale. These layouts will include steam-powered locomotives pulling passenger & cattle cars, diesel engines speeding through tiny towns & more. For more information, call (256) 837-1816.

November 1
Spirit Stroll-Madison
Free. 7 pm. Leave from the Hale Fire Glass Company, 112 Main Street. Guides costumed in top hats & frock coats lead strollers by lantern through downtown Madison. Come experience a combination of "ghost" stories that happened in Madison & learn interesting tidbits of our local history. For more information, call (256) 325-4253.

November 1-16
The Maize Wed.-Thurs. 5-9 pm, Fri.-Sat. 10 am-11 pm, Sun. 1-5 pm, closed Mon.-Tues. I-565 East, left onto Brownsboro Road (between mile marker 107 & 108) just past the BP Station & Jim Johnson Motors Sales. The Maize is immediately on the left. Discover why getting lost means finding fun. Most participants, adults & children alike, spend an average of one hour trying to maneuver their way out of the mind-boggling puzzle. November 2
Hike Three Trails On Monte Sano
Free. 12:30 pm. Take Pratt Avneue to Bankhead Parkway, cross Tollgate Road. The parking lot is 1/2 mile further on the right. Par at the south end & walk past the bollards to The Land Trust Pavilion. Hike with Botanist Lynne Weninegar for a sampling of tree trails on Monte Sano Preserve. Participants from the IMBA Trail Building School are especially welcome. This is moderate to difficult 2-3 hour hike. For more information, call (256) 534-5263.
