Celebrating Christmas & New Year's in Huntsville For Free

21. December 7, 2010: Polar Express Pajama Party

Free. 6:30 pm at Madison Public Library, 130 Plaza Boulevard Madison. Come dressed in your pajamas & hear a reading of the "Polar Express." We'll have cookies & hot cocoa for our guests & will hand out Christmas bells, too. All children will receive a wrapped book as a gift & can have their picture made beside the Christmas tree. 22. December 10-12, 2010: "On Christmas Day"

Free admission. No offerings will be solicited or accepted. 6th Annual Christmas Festival features Crèche exhibits, Hand-made quilts, Christmas trees, Holiday decor, Live Indoor Nativity, "The Nativity" video, Choir and orchestra concerts, free family photos, children's games. Festival Hours: Dec 10 (Fri) 6:00-8:30 pm, Dec 11 (Sat) 4:00-8:30 pm and Dec 12 (Sun) 4:00-8:30 pm. Choir & Orchestra Concerts (30-minute concerts): Dec 10 (Fri) 6:30 & 7:30 pm, Dec 11 (Sat) 4:30, 6:00 & 7:30 pm, Dec 12 (Sun) 4:30, 6:00 & 7:30 pm. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1804 Sparkman Drive, Huntsville.

23. December 11, 2010: Luminary Night Celebration

Free.  4-6 pm At First United Methodist Church, 120 Green St. The spirit of the 14th century joins with the 19th-20th & 21st centuries for a Christmas celebration. Outside the Sanctuary you will find colorfully dressed characters from 14th century England & contemporary carolers singing & greeting you-refreshments & entertainment will be found in the Wesley Center. Down the hall you will enjoy cider & cookies while you listen to the Children's Choir-Handbell Ringers-First Family Singers & The Heavenly Honkers. Free. 24. December 11, 2010: Live Nativity Scenes & Open House

Free. 5-8:30 pm at 501 Holmes Street, Holmes Street United Methodist Church,  Come to the heart of Old Town where beautiful luminaries line the streets of the community & we share in the Christmas spirit. Outside the sanctuary-visit the live Nativity & watch for the Wise Men to come from the East at 7 PM. Inside-warm up with hot chocolate-refreshments-homemade cookies & children's activities. In the sanctuary-see the beautiful poinsettia display-a 20-foot Chrismon Tree & enjoy live concert music presented every half hour. For more information, call (256) 534-7672

25. December 11, 2010: Candlelight Christmas Maple Hill Memorial

Free.  6-7 pm at Maple Hill Cemetery, 202 Maple Hill Drive Huntsville.  Lighted luminaries halo the graves of the unknown Confederate Soldiers, ribbons & greenery will adorn the iron fence.  An honor guard will be posted.  Re-enactors will be dressed in period attire.  The United Daughters of the Confederacy & the Sons of Confederate Veterans will remember the soldiers in work & song.  For more info, call (256) 859-3525.

26. December 11, 2010: Family Open House--Make & Take Craft Day

Free.  10 am-noon at Madison Public Library, 130 Plaza Boulevard Madison.  Come to the first ever make & take family craft day.  While supplies last, families can help one another construct  fun & free holiday ornaments. For more info, call (256) 461-0046.

27. December 11, 2010: Madison Holiday Parade

Free. 5:30 pm Starting at Hughes Road going to downtown Madison."All I Want For Christmas!" Enjoy the warmth of Madison's historic district at the town's Christmas parade. Families will gather for an old-fashioned celebration on the downtown Village Green after the parade-listen to carolers & instrumental music around the Roundhouse & sip hot chocolate at the Gazebo. 28. December 12, 2010: Moravian Lovefeast

Free. 7:00 pm at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church-1306 Canstatt Drive. The service blends the reading of the Christmas story with music provided by the Chancel Choir and the Weatherly Festival Orchestra while a simple meal of a Moravian Lovefeast bun and sweetened de-caff coffee is served. The service closes with all present lighting their Moravian candles during the singing of "Silent Night."

29. December 12, 2010: "Carols of Christmas"

6:30 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 607 Airport Road, in the Santcuary. Free tickets at church. The Trinity UMC Sanctuary Choir with guest, Huntsville Youth Symphony and Huntsville Chamber Chorale with present the 6th annual "Carols of Christmas." This concert will share the message of the season with classic and favorite songs of Christmas.

30. December 16-19, 2010: Living Christmas Tree--Simplicity & Splendor

Free. Thurs.-Fri. 7:30 PM, Sat. 4:30 & 7:30 PM & Sun. 3 (Children's Performance) & 5 PM at First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive Huntsville. Presented annually since 1984, The Living Christmas Tree is First Baptist Church's Christmas gift to the city. A spectacle of sight and sound the tree features over 150 singers, a 50 piece orchestra and literally thousands of lights!
