Celebrating Christmas & New Year's in Huntsville


There's a variety of activities and events to celebrate the holiday season in Huntsville. Whether it's the traditional Christmas events or something new in Huntsville, here's a list for you to study to find something to do this holiday season.

1. November 17, 2010-January 1, 2011: Burritt's Holiday Exhibit--Deck the Halls

Admission charged. Tues.-Sat. 10 AM-4 PM & Sun. Noon-4 PM Burritt on the Mountain, 3101 Burritt Drive Huntsville. Step into a magical world of holiday delight as the already beautiful Burritt Mansion is decked out for the holidays by local designers & decorators. It will amaze young & old alike. 2. November 19, 2010: Bridge Street Christmas Tree Lightng

Free. Entertainment starts at 5 pm.  Tree lighting 6 pm at North Staging Area, Bridge Street.  Enjoy live holiday music, special performances, hot chocolate, guest appearances & more.  Culminating in Huntsville's biggest holiday tree lighting.  For more info, call (256) 327-8400.

3. November 19-23, 2010: Galaxy of Lights Walking Tour

Admission charged. 5-7:30 PM at Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue Huntsville. For 4 nights, walk at your own pace through the winter wonderland of holiday lights, enjoy the sounds of the season & see real-life nursery rhyme characters & of course, Santa. Children can make gifts & warm refreshements will be available. No cars allowed on these nights. For more info, call (256) 830-4447.

4. November 21, 2010: Jingle Bell 5k Run/Walk for Arthritis

Admission charged. Registration opens at 1 pm Midtowne on the Park in Research Park. The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is a fun-filled holiday themed running/walking event where hundreds of people tie jingle bells to their shoes and take to the streets while simultaneously raising money to support arthritis research, community programs and services and advocacy initiatives that help improve the lives of people with arthritis. 5. November 22, 2010: Galaxy of Lights Walk Your Dog Night

Admission charged. 5-7:30 pm at Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville. Dog must be on a leash. For more info, call (256) 830-4447.

6. November 25, 2010-January 1, 2011: Galaxy of Lights Drive-Through

Admission charged. 5:30-9 pm at Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue Huntsville. Join the tradition by driving through the winter light extravaganza in the warmth of your car. See thousands of twinkling lights with old favorites & fabulous new animated displays.

7. November 26-December 23, 2010: Santa's Village

Admission charged. 5-9 pm at Alabama Constitution Village, 109 Gates Avenue Huntsville. Young & old alike will delight in visiting Santa & Mrs. Claus' home, the reindeer in their stable & elves in their toy shop working busily to create special memories for you & your family in the village Santa calls home. 8. November 28, 2010: Children's Christmas Pageant

Free.  5 pm in sanctuary at Trinity United Methodist Church, Airport Road.  A traditional Christmas pageant with Trinity's Children's choir & youth.  Special Music by Youth handbells.

9. December 1, 2010: Every Light A Prayer For Peace--Huntsville

10 am at the Arbor at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.  This is the Official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the Federated Garden Clubs of Huntsville & Madison County. This year's program includes local dignitaries-elementary students-clergy representatives & Garden Club members who will light the tree. Refreshments will be served at the end of the program. 10. December 1-3, 2010: Old "Santa Shop"

Free.  Wed. Noon-4 PM, Thurs. 9 AM-4 PM & Fri. 9 AM-2 PM at Huntsville/Madison County Senior Center, 2200 Drake Avenue Huntsville.  Enjoy cottage arts & crafts for sale, holiday dessert sale, raffle for a porcelain doll, heritage arts & crafts demonstrations & Christmas music.  For more info, call (256) 800-7030.
