1. September 1 thru October 31, 2011: Scarecrow Trail

Admission charged.  Mon.-Sat. 9 AM-6 PM, Thurs. 9 AM-8 PM & Sun. Noon-6 PM at Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Ave.  The Scarecrows are arriving daily and they've gone Hollywood! Come see what incredible hay-filled creatures have sprung from the imagination of their creators! From Jack Scare-ow to film producer Martin "Scare"-cese, these famous 'crows are sure to entertain star-gazers of all ages.  This year's newest addition to the Scarecrow Trail: Hay Bale Art.  Hay rides on Saturdays: 10am - 4pm and Hay rides on Sundays: 1pm - 4pm. 




2. May 7-September 30, 2011: Butterfly House & Nature Center

Admission charged. Mon.-Sat. 9 AM-6 PM & Sun. Noon-6 PM at Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue Huntsville. This education center is home to the nation's largest open-air butterfly house. Over 2,000 butterflies grace this 9,000 square foot structure. The nature center is also home to an assortment of critters including snakes, quail, hummingbirds, frogs, fish & turtles. For more info, call (256) 830-4447.

3. May 21-September 5, 2011: USSRC “A T-Rex Named Sue” & “Be the Dinosaur”

Admission charged. USSRC, One Tranquility Base Huntsville. Presented by the Chicago Field Museum, highligting a full-sized cast of a 42-foot long Tyrannaosaurus rex. "Be the Dinosaur" takes visitors back 65 million years using advanced computer simulations. For more info, call(256) 837-3400.

4. Now thru Sept. 6, 2011: Point Mallard Aquatic Center (Decatur)

Fee for participants only. 10 a.m.-9 p.m. at Point Mallard Park--Aquatic Center with water features opened for the summer. For more info, call 800-524-6181.

5. Now thru September 30, 2011: Treehouses With a Splash

The Huntsville Botanical Garden, Bob Wallace Ave, Huntsville. Treehouses debut on Saturday, April 2nd with splash features opening on Saturday, April 30th. Treehouses with a Splash runs through the end of September. This summer, you can climb, swing, splash and play your way through the Garden - where there’s always something growing on. 6. Now thru November 30, 2011: Harmony Park Safari

7. Now Thru December 19, 2011: Flying Monkey's Artist Market

Free. noon- 4 p.m. Huntsville Artist Market at Flying Monkey at Lowe Mill, 2211 Seminole Dr. Free indoor artist booths/spaces for the sales and promotion of local artwork. For more information, call 256-479-7863.

8. August 21-November 7, 2011: "Blood Thread & Tears--WWII Quilts"

Admission charged.  Sun. 1-4 PM, Tues.-Wed. 11 AM-4 PM, Thurs. 11 AM-8 PM, Fri.-Sat. 11 AM-4 PM, Closed Mon. at Huntsville Museum of Art, 300 Church Street South Huntsville.  Between 1941 & 1945, American women were making quilts in record numbers while their sons, husbands, brothers & loved ones were on the battlefront. This exhibition features approximately 20 WWII-era quilts & tops from the private collection of Sue Reich & the ephemera to anchor them historically in time, including photographs, V mail, ration books, parachute samples, magazines & newspaper quilting patterns. 9. September 1, 2011: Green Street Market at Nativity

10. September 1-5, 2011: Northeast Alabama State Fair

Admission charged.  TThurs.-Fri. 6-11 PM (Fri. Midnight Madness 11 PM-1 AM) Sat.-Sun. 2-11 PM & Mon. 2-9 PM at John Hunt Park, on the grounds of the old airport Huntsville.  The Northeast Alabama State Fair has the largest midway in northeast Alabama, concessions & exhibits.  For more info, call (256) 883-5252.
