Taylor Hicks on American Idol
Taylor Hicks came to national attention as the gray-haired blues singer on American Idol 5. Taylor Hicks from Birmingham, Alabama has not only his grandmother and Soul Patrol fans, but judge Simon Cowell singing his praises. Taylor Hicks is the third person from Alabama to make the finals on American Idol: Ruben Studdard and Bo Bice were also from Alabama.

Vonetta Flowers (Bobsledding)
Vonetta Flowers was the first black athlete from any country to ever win an Olympic Winter Games gold medal. With her team mate Jill Bakken, Vonetta Flowers won a Winter Olympics gold medal in women's bobsled in 2002.

Alabama's Bobby Jon Drinkard Tackles "Survivor" Again
Bobby Jon Drinkard of Troy, Alabama was one of the last two members of Oolong Tribe in 2005 "Suvivors: Palau." He was known for his hard work and good looks. Bobby Jon returned for a second chance at winning "Survivor: Guatemala" for the million dollar prize.
