It was going to be a great day. Taylor Hicks was coming to town. The weather was beautiful. The local news was covering his arrival for hometown celebrations. I watched a few minutes and then left the house to run a few errands.
My day was planned: go to downtown Birmingham to see the welcoming parade for Taylor and go to the Galleria Mall in Hoover to see his live performance. (And later, I decided to go to the Birmingham Museum of Art to catch one more glimpse of him. ) That was my plan. I just wanted to catch a glimpse of him and maybe get a few good pictures.
I met my daughter downtown (after getting lost a few times) and we drove to the area of the parade. We could see from a higher level that the parade had already started so we ran a couple of blocks toward the sound of the band. It was so exciting! We were so afraid we were going to miss him.
We arrived just in time….first came the high school band, then the Fox 6 Storm Tracker….and then…….a convertible carrying TAYLOR!!! The rest is a big blur…Things started to happen quickly…I noticed Taylor’s parade had come to a stop and people were running out to his car for autographs. I knew I wanted an autograph but everyone seemed to have pictures of Taylor and he was signing them.
