20 Asbury Road (Wakefield)
Home of Jeff and Maxine Sikes
Nestled among native hardwoods, rhododendrons, and hydrangeas, the style of this home takes its cue from those found in the English countryside. Its unpretentious Tudor brick and limestone facades welcomes visitors graciously, while the inside presents understated formality and rustic elegance. Designed by Joe Fuqua in 1995, the structure takes advantage of the spectacular view of Jones Farm, the Tennessee River, and beyond. One of the owners' favorite features is the large elevated patio and covered porch surrounded by beautiful year round vistas of the valley. The outdoor kitchen is put to use often for both casual, family and formal entertaining. From the Tuscan style two story foyer of travertine and iron, the home's formal salon features 22 foot panels salvaged from Alabama's Cotton Exchange Building in Mobile (c. 1850). The open kitchen and family room combination is warm with glazed wood cabinetry and heart pine floors from the old Sears tower in Chicago. The lower level, featuring a media/family room, billiard room, wine cellar, and private covered patio of Palladian brick arches overlooking the natural mountain landscape, finishes the tour.
