Totally remodeled in 2003, family was the main inspiration for this kitchen. With a love of cooking and three young children, Todd and Amy wanted a kitchen that was warm and casual, yet practical for a young family and functional for cooking.

Working with the architect, an open floor plan was created to allow for easy entertaining and for informal, fun-loving family life. The kitchen is located in the center of the home adjacent to a small keeping room and with easy access to the dining room.

Contacting with a custom cabinetmaker, Amy wanted the look of an old farmhouse, so the cabinets have a distressed finish with a heavy chocolate hand-glaze. The extra large center island is a distressed black with a granite top and is the hub of the kitchen. The kids can do homework and prep work for cooking can be done at the same time. The matching hutch is used as both a pantry and display area for collectibles.

The commercial grade 5-star gas range and hood, with a backsplash of tumbled marble, are the main focus of one wall and was part of the inspiration for the kitchen. It is not only eye-catching, but highly functional for a growing family.

Neutral colors in the kitchen are punctuated by a soft moss green on the walls and punches of red in the dining room chairs and keeping room sofa. The Gandy’s main goal in their remodel was to make everyone who enters feel welcomed and at home.
