When the Broomes decided to renovate their kitchen, their desire was to create an attractive, multifunctional space to meet the needs of their large family, love of cooking, and spending time with friends. Since the kitchen is the gathering spot in their home, it was important to optimize the space, allowing for multiple work areas while at the same time creating a convenient traffic pattern.

Their large island is the primary work space in the kitchen. The Broome’s wanted it to take on the look of a piece of furniture so they chose to use an heirloom stain on cherry with a French style door, French carvings and turned legs. It accommodates a second sink which extends the work area and allows two cooks to function comfortably together.

Across from this prep area is extra seating for casual meals, homework, or to just sit and visit with the cook. The island design incorporated multiple storage conveniences for ease of use in the work and service area. The convenient storage, service, and work space made the island the Broome’s favorite addition to the kitchen.
