The stone hood over the gas range gives the room an Old World ambiance. Open cabinets house copper storage bins on either side of the range. Stone and ceramic tile is repeated on counter tops and backsplash in complementary colors and design to complete the theme as well as to provide a durable work surface.

To continue the aged feel, the cabinetry in the perimeter around the island is painted with a brown glaze and rub-thru. Glass mullioned doors display collections of dishes and other favorite culinary finds. Architectural details on the island cabinetry are repeated on the painted pieces to give the design unity.

A pass-through with double sink underneath allows a cleanup area with a view to the sunroom beyond. Choices in appliances were a very important aspect of the overall plan. A large 48” refrigerator, double oven, microwave, warming drawer, and quiet dishwasher were all chosen with care and consideration to accommodate the needs of the Broome’s busy family.
