The ornamental stone lintels over the three-part windows of the main floor are of Alabama limestone, and are of a single piece measuring 10 feet long.
The interior of the house conforms to a traditional layout, featuring a gracious central hall with a winding stair, flanked by large
square rooms with ceilings 12 feet high. While the spaciousness of the rooms and generously sized windows are evocative of historic
structures, the house has a more modern character in its interior design. Floors on the main level are travertine and the walls and trim
are painted white, creating a gallery-like setting for Dr. Aust's collection of continental furnishings and contemporary art. The living
room and dining room feature monumental portraits of the Aust children by the artist, Nall. Of particular interest is the guest bedroom's beautiful lit en bateau, a French bed dating from the time of Napoleon. The Aust Residence was designed by architect Frank Nola, Jr., with interiors by Jean Penney. The house was constructed by the late Ed Eva and David Gilbert.
