The house at 507 Franklin St. is the Vandiver Home. Thomas H. and Lucie Gilbert built the house circa 1900. The house was converted from apartments to a single family dwelling in the 1970's. During this time a charming gazebo type screened porch was added to the back of the house. Since acquiring the property in June, 1980, the Vandiver's have completely redecorated the inside of the house. One wall and bath were removed to make room for a large den and entry to the screened porch from the den. The house is furnished with American antiques, many of which have been in Mr. or Mrs. Vandiver's family for many years. Among the many owners of the house has been a mayor of Huntsville and several prominent merchants.
