Bo Bice's Musical Competitions

Bo Bice Fans Meet #6

Bo Bice on "American Idol"

When Bo Bice asked his mother her opinion on whether or not he should try out for American Idol, she "double-dogged dared" him to do it, saying she'd drive him to wherever he needed to go to audition, if he did. She was with Bo Bice for the 3-day audition process in Florida and when he received his first good news from the popular FOX-TV music show. Bo Bice came out of the audition room, hiding his yellow sheet of paper from his mother and pretended for a moment that he wasn't going to Hollywood. Then she saw the yellow sheet that confirmed Bo Bice's success.

Living in Helena, Alabama, Bo Bice was fired from his guitar gallery manager job when he aced his audition for "American Idol" and asked for a leave of absence.

Bo Bice, who prays before each performance, is humble with all the publicity he has received so far and repeats that he "is as surprised as anyone on how far he has come." Bo Bice resides just outside Nashville now.

Bo Bice seemed to just "pick music up" and taught himself how to play piano and guitar. Bo Bice won his first vocal competition at age nine when he performed at Brown Elementary School in Syrma, Georgia. He went on to take second place in the Georgia State Competition that year, singing Lee Greenwood's popular hit, "God Bless the USA." At 12, Bo Bice won the state vocal competition in Atlanta.
