The whole park has been decorated for Christmas, including the mansion, the old Baptist church, all the 1800's log cabins and the grounds. Hundreds of candles will light the pathways throughout the park. Don't forget to enjoy the view from on top the mountain while you're there--Huntsville always looks spectacular from Monte Sano and the Burritt has one of the best views in town.
Local musicians will perform traditional Christmas music as visitors view the exhibitions and enjoy the splendid Christmas decorations created by Burritt volunteers. Fruit fans made from assorted fresh fruits will decorate the doorways throughout the Mansion.
In the Historic Park, 19th Century traditions--or the lack there of--will be emphasized. Volunteers in period clothing will demonstrate holiday traditions in both the 1850 and 1900 areas of the site. You'll get a chance to see quaint decorations, Christmas cookies being baked on an open hearth, 19th century ornaments being made, and a variety of other 19th century skills being demonstrated. Visitors will be treated to old-time music, homemade cookies, and hot apple cider in the Trillium Room.
Children can enjoy playing traditional games, hearing Christmas stories, and making old-fashioned holiday ornaments. A visit from our own Victorian St. Nicholas will delight the children with stories and special treats. The Museum store will be open for any Christmas shoppers who are looking for unique gift ideas.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, students and the military, and $4 for children, ages 2 to 18. Burritt Museum Association members and children under 2 are admitted free. The holiday decorations will remain up in the 14 rooms of the Mansion and the Historic Park through Friday, December 22. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m.
