How to Reduce Spay or Neutering Cost For Your Pet

SNAP Program Helps With Vet Bills

By , About.com Guide

Pets are a very important part of American homes. I recently contacted Mary J. Ultz, Humane Educator for the City of Huntsville for information about the important issue of spayed and neutering pets. She told me about two programs that can help certain individuals with the financial responsibility of taking responsible care of your pets. This is what I found out from Ms. Ultz:

There is a Huntsville group called the SNAP (Spay Neuter Action Project) group. They have two qualifying programs for reduced rate spay/neuter:

  • One of the programs is a minimal co-pay for qualifying people. In order for people to qualify for this option, you have to be on some sort of government low-income assistance. You have to apply for assistance & approval prior to the surgery. This program only pays while funds are available. If SNAP runs out of funds before the end's year, they cannot subsidize any more surgeries.

  • The other program they offer is the certificate program. Anyone can get a certificate for the surgery. I have provided a SNAP certificate for you online. The reduced fees are:

    Male cat $40
    Female cat $50
    /male dog $50
    Female dog $55
+$10 Add for dogs over 50 pounds

However, there are only certain participating vets that you can use. Please see the SNAP certificate for a list of the participating vets in the Huntsville area. If you have more questions, SNAP can be reached at (256) 539-8163.
