2005 WaterWorks at Huntsville Botanical Garden

6 Water Stations for the Kids

By Jean Brandau, About.com

When it's hot outside, you should gather up the kids and head for the Garden. The 2005 WaterWorks attractions at the Huntsville Botanical Garden features six different stations to get the kids all wet. My grandchildren were in Huntsville recently visiting from Kansas. They had a blast at the Garden.

Last year was the first year for the WaterWorks at the Garden, the brainchild of Marketing Director Sharon Jordan. Pack a picnic lunch, stroll through the garden flowers and splash in the WaterWorks--an ideal summer day's activity for the whole family.

This year the WaterWorks includes six different water activities:

  • Rock Garden opposite the Butterfly House was designed by Trevor Cole of Across the Pond.
  • Kid's Car Wash designed by Carol & Ron Lambdin with material help from Park Supply and input from 1st & 2nd grades of Madison Crossroads Elementary School.
  • Leaky Water Tower designed by Larry Denman and the Huntsville Utilities, where a sign swears this is the only leaky water tower in Huntsville.
  • Wacky Waterbrella--also designed by the Huntsville Utilities.
  • Galloping Gushers is the Eagle Scout project of Samuel Bennett.
  • Psychedelic Sloshy Saucer is the work of Bill Snoddy, Nes Cummings, Tom Irby, Mary Beth Johns, Don Adams, Harry Reid and Clyde Pearson.
My grandchildren enjoyed the Car Wash and the Sloshy Saucer the best, I think. I did, however, have to drag them away from each of them...so I guess I can't say which was their favorite (the one they were on?). We missed the Wacky Waterbrella and the Leaky Water Tower was closed for maintenance. It was an afternoon of wet, wild fun, though.
